Lung Cancer: Multi-Disciplinary Program
Lung Cancer: A Multidiscipinary Approach Means Hope
The #1 cancer that kills women isn’t breast cancer; it’s lung cancer. It’s also the most deadly cancer in men. With our multidisciplinary approach and distinguished history in the battle against lung cancer, Ochsner is giving patients what they need to fight back.
As a national leader in treating lung cancer, our programs don’t just meet the national standard, they exceed them.
In addition, our research team conducts cutting edge clinical trials to test new methods of prevention and treatment. Ochsner also has the largest program in the Gulf South performing minimally invasive lung cancer surgeries.
A team of physicians, surgeons and other healthcare professionals dedicated to lung cancer diagnosis and treatment work together to deliver the most effective treatment and support available—so you have the benefit of specialized knowledge that can make all the difference in your treatment, quality of life and recovery.
A dedicated nurse navigator works with patients and referring providers to facilitate scheduling appointments and obtaining records.
Performing traditional as well as minimally invasive thoracic and robotic surgical procedures, our board certified thoracic surgeons routinely treat patients with:
- Lung cancer
- Nodules, masses, effusions and other potential lung cancer indicators
- Thymic tumors, mediastinal masses and other thoracic malignancies
Ochsner has the only multispeciality program in the region focusing on lung-sparing advanced therapeutics for mesothelioma. Our lung cancer program offers the latest advances in cancer imaging, robotic surgical techniques, image-guided radiation therapy and targeted chemotherapy.
A Legacy of Cancer Treatment
In 1939, Dr. Alton Ochsner co-authored the initial report linking smoking to lung cancer. He went on to pioneer lung cancer treatment. Continuing his legacy motivates us still as we look for new ways to stop cancer in its tracks.
