Interventional Radiology

The Angio/Interventional Radiology Section performs all vascular and non-vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures. All of our physicians are continually on the forefront of research and development of angiography and interventional procedures. We perform procedures such as angiography, angioplasty, uterine fibroid embolization, radiofrequency ablation, chemoembolization, percutaneous biopsy, nerve root blocks, facet and SI joint injections, epidural steroid injections, venous access, dialysis fisulagram, angioplasty and declot vascular stenting. In addition, the Angio/Interventional section performs TIPS, IVC filters and interventional oncology.

Ochsner's Interventional Radiology Section collaborates very closely with the Nephrology Section's End Stage Renal Disease Program. Vascular ultrasound dopplers are used extensively for evaluation of vascular access in end state renal disease patients. Abnormalities lead to rapid evaluation by the interventional radiology department using standard angiographic techniques that may lead to percutaneous declot procedures, percutaneous angioplasty procedures and stent placement in those cases where indicated. Subclavian vein pathology is also extensively evaluated and treated appropriately with angioplasty or stent placement when needed. CO2 angiography is available for the evaluation of renal artery disease in patients at high risk for contrast induced renal failure.
